Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic is a growing, team-oriented veterinary practice dedicated to providing exceptional care to pets and the people who love them. We are proud to be Wisconsin's first Low Stress Handling hospital , and we have been practicing gentle, patient-centered handling for decades. We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant who is compassionate, dependable, energetic, and eager to learn. The ideal candidate enjoys working with both animals and people and understands that excellent veterinary care depends on a strong team. Position Responsibilities The Veterinary Assistant will work closely with our veterinarians, technicians, and client service team to provide outstanding patient care and keep the hospital running smoothly.
Responsibilities include:
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments, procedures, treatments, and surgeries Safely and compassionately restrain and handle dogs, cats, and other patients using Low Stress Handling techniques Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical areas, and equipment Assist with patient intake, weighing, history gathering, and room preparation Provide appropriate patient care and husbandry, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and monitoring hospitalized patients Assist with surgical preparation, recovery, and cleaning Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment Collect and appropriately handle laboratory samples as directed Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures as trained Maintain clean, organized kennels, treatment areas, and common spaces Stock supplies and help maintain appropriate inventory levels Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment and work areas according to hospital protocols Assist with pharmacy duties and preparing medications as directed Communicate appropriately with clients regarding basic patient care instructions and hospital procedures Provide compassionate support to clients and their pets throughout their visit Follow safety, sanitation, and patient-care protocols Maintain accurate patient information and medical records Assist other team members wherever needed to ensure efficient patient care Participate in continuing education and ongoing training What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be: Compassionate and patient with animals Comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes, personalities, and handling needs Reliable, punctual, and accountable A positive and supportive team member Comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary environment Willing to learn and accept coaching and feedback Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions Comfortable communicating with both clients and coworkers Able to stay calm and professional during stressful situations Physically capable of standing for extended periods and safely lifting and moving animals and supplies Interested in developing veterinary knowledge and skills Previous veterinary experience is preferred but not required.
