Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Veterinarian Technician with a minimum of 2 years verifiable working experience to join our Medical Service Team . This position is responsible for the overall health of the animals in the care of the Yavapai Humane Society.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; 2 years minimum veterinarian technician experience in this field. CVT preferred. Veterinarian Technician must be able to read and write English and possess excellent customer service skills. Must have the ability to handle animals humanly and safely and properly control animals that may be sick or injured. Must have the ability to read and comprehend laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the Yavapai Humane Society (YHS). Should be able to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with the public and other YHS employees. CVT preferred. Pay based on experience.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receives stray and relinquished animals that are brought to the YHS shelters and assists the public in claiming impounded or lost animals.
- Complete medical examinations of all animals to be housed in the YHS to include providing assistance during the intake of the same animals on an as needed basis.
- Vaccinate and test all animals following the YHS vaccination and test procedures.
- Assist the on-duty veterinarian during surgery.
- Assist the on-duty veterinarian with medical examinations.
- Checks and monitors the health of all shelter animals and reports any concerns to the shelter veterinarian on duty.
- Renders animal first aid and emergency treatment as necessary.
- Prepares surgery suite for surgery and ensures all equipment and instruments are operable and sanitized.
- Responsible for feeding, watering and caring for animals maintained or housed in the YHS clinic.
- Responsible for cleaning clinic kennels.
- Maintains pharmaceutical and other veterinary medical supplies and completes end of month inventory.
- Accurately records usage of all controlled substances in appropriate logs.
- Orders clinic supplies and medications as directed and codes all clinic invoices.
- Enters all pertinent clinic data into the YHS database.
- Assists in the appropriate disposition of animals as directed, to include humane euthanasia in a safe manner.
- Assists the shelter veterinarian and YHS staff on other duties as assigned.
