Job Summary Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis. Perform hemodialysis at the Hemodialysis and Blood Purification Units of the Davis VMTH. Coordinate w/ relevant services & personnel, set up equipment & supplies, assist in procedure, trouble shoot & maintain including endoscopic procedures, feeding tube placement, laparoscopy, interventional radiology. Perform patient care per clinician orders; provide instruction to student, staff, clinicians, and clients; provide facility and equipment maintenance; perform laboratory procedures and clerical duties. These patients require intense, and often constant, monitoring, reassessment and treatment.

No minimum education required. Experience independently, as a significant part of daily duties, providing treatment of patients whose conditions are likely to change on a moment­ to-moment basis with experience with hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Ability to identify abnormal physical signs and symptoms and recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and document those observations. Skill to insert the correct arterial, venous or urinary catheter with aseptic technique. Skills to precisely calculate dosages of medications and fluids and set up and monitor IV fluids, troubleshoot and correct problems per patient status. Knowledge of microbiology, physiology, pharmacology, anatomy and husbandry of a variety of animals adequate enough to teach written and verbal instructions regarding patient care. Knowledge of infection control and disinfection in a hospital environment, including knowledge of equipment and supplies necessary to clean assigned area(s). Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of people to include clients, clinicians, students, staff, and the general public. Preferred Qualifications Current CA Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License. Perform hemodialysis with all necessary supplies and program equipment to perform dialysis. Monitor and operate dialysis equipment and interpret information to make adjustments to patient treatment per clinician 's orders and document patient observations, biological test results, and other patient parameters.
