Job Description
Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgical Technician to join our growing specialty surgery team. This position is intended for an experienced veterinary technician who is confident working in a specialty surgical environment and understands the high level of patient care, organization, and technical skill required before, during, and after advanced surgical procedures. What You'll Do Assist specialty surgeons with advanced soft tissue and orthopedic procedures Prepare patients for surgery, including catheter placement, medication administration, surgical prep, and positioning Set up and maintain the surgical suite, instrumentation, and equipment Perform surgical instrument identification, preparation, sterilization, and proper handling Assist with anesthesia induction, intubation, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery Closely monitor anesthetized patients and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention Calculate and administer medications, CRIs, and fluids as directed Provide attentive pre-operative and post-operative patient care Maintain accurate anesthesia, treatment, and medical records Assist with diagnostic imaging and other procedures associated with surgical cases Maintain surgical inventory and ensure supplies and equipment are ready for scheduled and emergency procedures Communicate effectively with surgeons, technicians, assistants, and other hospital departments Maintain exceptional standards for cleanliness, sterility, patient safety, and infection control What We're Looking For Previous specialty veterinary surgical and anesthesia experience is required. We are looking for a technician who is confident with anesthesia, surgical nursing, patient monitoring, and recovery and who can remain organized and composed during complex cases. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely as part of a surgical team are essential.
