Exotic Bird Animal Care Technician Freeport, FL | Full-Time & Part-Time Do you love parrots and exotic birds—and want to be part of a mission to give them a better life? Alaqua Animal Refuge is seeking an Exotic Bird Animal Care Technician to help care for parrots and other exotic birds rescued from neglect, cruelty, or abandonment. Many of these birds are long-lived, highly intelligent, and deeply social. They need more than just care—they need connection , enrichment, and a place to heal. If you're experienced with birds and passionate about animal welfare, we want to meet you.
What You'll Do:
Provide daily feeding, cage cleaning, and enrichment activities Monitor birds' health and behavior and report concerns to the veterinary team Ensure that aviary and indoor housing areas are clean, safe, and stimulating Assist with medical care and handling under the direction of our veterinary staff Interact with birds using gentle, positive reinforcement and calm behavior Help with habitat preparation, adoption readiness, and public education efforts
What We're Looking For:
Prior experience working with exotic birds or parrots (required) Knowledge of species-specific needs: diet, behavior, handling, and enrichment Comfortable working around loud environments and complex personalities Reliable, patient, detail-oriented, and willing to learn Strong communication and teamwork skills Able to work weekends/holidays as part of a rotating schedule Why Work at Alaqua?
