Bay Road Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician who is confident and proficient in both surgery/anesthesia and dental procedures.

This is not an entry-level technician position. Candidates MUST already have hands-on experience with surgical anesthesia and dental cleanings. We are looking for someone who can confidently step into these responsibilities with minimal training. Certification is preferred but not required.
Candidates must be proficient in:
Calculating anesthetic and injectable drug dosages Inducing and intubating dogs and cats Monitoring patients under anesthesia Recognizing and responding appropriately to anesthetic changes Preparing patients for surgical procedures Performing dental scaling and polishing Obtaining diagnostic dental radiographs efficiently Dental charting Extubation and post-anesthetic recovery Completing surgical and dental monitoring records and charting Applicants who do not currently have surgical/anesthesia AND dental experience will not be considered for this position. Responsibilities Surgery & Anesthesia Calculate injectable and anesthetic medications Prepare surgical patients Induce and intubate dogs and cats Monitor anesthesia and assist during surgical procedures Recognize changes in patient status and communicate concerns appropriately Extubate and monitor patients throughout recovery Complete anesthesia monitoring logs, surgical documentation, and discharge instructions Dentistry Calculate medications and prepare patients for anesthesia Induce, intubate, and monitor dental patients Obtain diagnostic dental radiographs efficiently Perform dental scaling and polishing Accurately chart teeth and dental findings Extubate and monitor patients during recovery Complete dental reports and associated patient charting Laboratory & Diagnostics Obtain blood samples, including jugular blood draws Understand appropriate blood tubes and sample handling Perform and evaluate common in-house diagnostics, including ear/skin cytology, fecal testing, urinalysis, and bloodwork Obtain diagnostic radiographs Patient Care & Treatments Place IV catheters Calculate drug dosages Administer SQ, IM, and IV medications Prepare and administer subcutaneous fluids Perform ear cleanings and administer medications Provide other routine technician treatments and patient care Medications Maintain a working knowledge of commonly prescribed veterinary medications Accurately fill medications Verify medications and document them appropriately in patient charts Client Communication Our technicians regularly communicate directly with clients, so strong communication skills are important.
Responsibilities may include:
Reviewing surgical and dental procedures with owners Discussing treatment estimates Reviewing veterinarian-approved laboratory information and instructions Demonstrating at-home SQ fluid administration Teaching owners how to administer insulin injections Answering appropriate client questions and communicating concerns to the veterinarian when needed What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced technician who is confident, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently within their role. You should be able to manage an anesthetized patient, perform a routine dental cleaning, and recognize when something isn't right without requiring constant direction.
Required :
Previous veterinary technician experience with demonstrated proficiency in both surgery/anesthesia and dentistry.
Preferred :
CVT or other veterinary technician credential. Experience with exotic pets such as birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and reptiles.
Compensation :
Starting pay is based on demonstrated experience, technical proficiency, and skill level.
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 36.0 - 40.0 per week
