Job Description

Companion (Oak Park) seeks a Lead Certified Veterinary Technician to support adults with developmental disabilities by overseeing compassionate care for their companion animals. In this resident-centered role, you'll coordinate veterinary visits, assist with exams and treatments, administer medications, and maintain accurate records. You will mentor support staff, promote animal welfare and safety, and collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary care team. Responsibilities Provide high-quality veterinary nursing support for residents' companion animals, including handling, restraint, basic treatments, and monitoring Assist veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, minor procedures, medication administration, and health record documentation Train and mentor veterinary support staff on proper animal care, safety, infection control, and handling techniques Coordinate appointment scheduling, follow-up care, and communication between care team, residents, and external veterinary providers Maintain clean, safe clinical areas; manage inventory of supplies, medications, and equipment Monitor animals' behavior and health changes, promptly reporting concerns to the veterinarian and care team Educate residents and staff on basic animal care, welfare, and preventive health practices Ensure compliance with veterinary, healthcare, and facility policies, including documentation and confidentiality standards Required Skills Veterinary nursing Animal handling and restraint Medication administration Veterinary medical recordkeeping Diagnostic support (labs, imaging coordination) Infection control and sanitation Client and caregiver communication Staff training and mentoring Behavior and health monitoring Inventory and supply management
