Laboratory Animal Resources Work Location Lexington, KY Grade Level 41 Salary Range $15.83-25.30/hour Type of Position Staff Position Time Status Full-Time Required Education AA Click here for more information about equivalencies: https://hr.uky.edu/employment/working-uk/equivalencies Required Related Experience 1 yr Required License/Registration/Certification None Physical Requirements Requires heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects over 50 pounds; animal handling (including carcasses); risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; exposure to temperature extremes, cuts/punctures, and bloodborne/airborne pathogens. Able to work in hot, wet areas and wear personal protective clothing. Shift Monday - Friday; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (40 hours per week); This position is required to participate in weekend, after hours, Holiday and on-call rotations. Mandatory overtime may be required to meet staffing needs. Required to participate in rotational on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to report during UK Emergency close due to inclement weather to provide treatment and support. Job Summary The Veterinary Services Technician I (Clinical) assists with clinical care, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and surgical support activities as assigned, while maintaining accurate medical and research records. Responsibilities also include supporting facility operations through proper sanitation, supply management, and adherence to all DLAR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements. This position also provides routine animal care and technical support within DLAR under the direction of veterinary and supervisory staff. This position is responsible for basic animal husbandry, including feeding, watering, cage changing, and monitoring animal health and environmental conditions for a variety of species used in research including mice and other rodents, non-human primates, canines pigeons and other species. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Staff may be cross-trained across multiple areas and are expected to participate in weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations, with occasional mandatory overtime to meet operational needs. The Veterinary Services Tech I is responsible for promptly reporting any deviations from SOPs or any non-routine situations to the Supervisor. Consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to scheduled break times are essential requirements of the role.

/ Abilities MS Windows, Word, Outlook Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience BA or BS Degree or it's equivalent is preferred along with AALAS certification at LATg or ASR1 or RVT. 1 year animal care experience, animal husbandry (laboratory animal husbandry preferred) or equivalent experience directly related to care, use, handling and treatment of animals in a paid position.
