Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic veterinary team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional animal care, assist veterinarians with medical procedures, and ensure smooth clinic operations. Your expertise will help improve the health and well-being of our diverse animal patients, from small pets to large animals, while delivering compassionate service to pet owners. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment. Perform animal restraint and handling techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary instructions. Collect laboratory samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for diagnostic testing; perform phlebotomy and laboratory work with precision. Operate medical equipment including X-ray machines, radiology diagnostics tools, anesthesia monitors, and other veterinary technology. Monitor animals under anesthesia during surgical procedures, ensuring proper anesthetic depth and vital signs are maintained. Maintain detailed patient records using veterinary software; document treatments, procedures, and observations clearly and accurately. Assist with pet grooming, pet care routines, and client communication to enhance overall pet wellness and owner satisfaction. Support emergency medicine cases by providing critical care interventions such as vascular access, IV insertion, and animal catheterization. Uphold aseptic techniques during all procedures to prevent infections; ensure a clean and safe clinical environment at all times. Maintain a clean environment and ensure patient safety by helping clean the clinic and kennels daily. Communicating information with clients, answering the phones, and scheduling appointments. Qualifications Proven kennel experience with animals of various sizes and temperaments. Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and general animal husbandry practices. Experience with dental terminology and assisting in dental procedures or cleanings is required. Prior veterinary technician experience with skills in anesthesia monitoring, critical & intensive care, radiology diagnostics, and laboratory work. Ability to handle dogs confidently using dog handling techniques; skilled in animal restraint for various procedures. Familiarity with veterinary software systems for record keeping and scheduling. Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration. Capable of performing IV insertion, animal catheterization, phlebotomy, medication administration, and emergency interventions efficiently. Knowledge of veterinary surgical assistance procedures along with proficiency in medical equipment operation is highly desirable. Must be a licenced veterinary technician in the state of Kentucky.
