Job Description

Lake Area Animal Hospital is seeking an organized, compassionate and service-oriented Veterinary technician to join our team. As a veterinary technician, you will aide our veterinarians during examinations/medical treatments and provide direct care to our animal patients. This job might be for you if You genuinely enjoy working with animals and are able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain You are able to remain calm during a medical crisis You love the teamwork approach and work well with all levels of hospital team members You have excellent communication skills Strong team dynamics - our team genuinely enjoy working together and supporting one another As a Veterinary technician, a typical day might include the following Keeping accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy Performing physical assessments; record observations legibly Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis Handling client's medical questions with confidence and directing to veterinarians when appropriate Preparing estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies Explaining necessary follow-up and homecare instructions Performing clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; drawing blood for laboratory analysis; maintaining files of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records Effectively positioning for and taking radiographs Placing IV catheters and properly caring for them Ability to give SQ, IM, and IV injections Knowledge of how to prepare and scrub surgical sites for sterile procedures Possess the confidence and knowledge to be able to assist the veterinarian during surgeries by handing out necessary surgical tools, maintaining wounds, change dressings, and monitor vitals during the procedure. Knowlege of usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and the ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia To land this gig, you must have at least 1 year experience as a veterinary technician. $11.00 - $16 per hour
