Major Functions :
A Kennel Technician is responsible for the direct care of the animals at Harbor Humane Society. The primary responsibility of a Kennel Technician is to provide animals with their daily needs while maintaining a clean and healthy environment at the shelter. Duties and Responsibilities- Clean and disinfect kennel and other areas of the shelter
- Feed and water animals
- Provide positive human interactions with shelter animals
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment at facility
- Observe animals for behavioral and health related problems and report them to a supervisor
- Assist animal control officers and the public with incoming animals
- Administer vaccinations and medications to animals
- Perform heartworm and FIV/FeLV tests
- Microchip animals
- Assist the public
- Perform adoption counseling
- Log information in to our computer database (Shelterluv)
- Check in, sort, and store donations
- Clean and maintain outside dog runs
- Perform miscellaneous duties as instructed by supervisor
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to carry out the above responsibilities.
- Genuine concern, compassion and respect for animals
- Strong desire to learn about animals and their proper care
- Ability to educate community about the humane treatment of animals
- Dependability and strong work ethic
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Able to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
- Highly motivated and a self-starter who possesses the ability to multitask and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Deals positively with other departments and public.
- Ability to work under high stress situations and multi-task.
- Commitment to Harbor Humane Society's mission and values.
- Knowledge of animal welfare issues a plus.
