Asheville Veterinary Specialists is an independent, locally owned surgical referral practice founded by Meredith Kapler, DVM, DACVS, a board-certified veterinary surgeon and Asheville native. We're currently operating out of a temporary space at AVL Urgent Care ahead of opening our own specialty hospital in 2027, offering outpatient orthopedic and soft tissue surgery for referred patients. The role We're looking for an experienced surgical technician to work directly with Dr. Kapler in the OR, starting at 3 days a week and growing with caseload. This is a hands-on, high-trust role in a small, independent practice, not a corporate environment, with real input into how we build things from the ground up. Responsibilities

• Admit patients, collect history, assist with physical exams, communicate with clients to set expectations for their experience
• Prepare patients, instruments, and the OR for orthopedic and soft tissue procedures
• Administer and monitor anesthesia under the surgeon's direction
• Assist during surgery
• Handle sterile processing and instrument care
• Take and process radiographs
• Support controlled substance logging and inventory management
• Communicate with clients on discharge instructions and post-op questions as needed Qualifications
• Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred; experienced non-credentialed techs with strong surgical/anesthesia background will be considered
• Prior surgical and anesthesia monitoring experience required
• Comfortable working independently in a small-team, fast-paced surgical setting
• Strong communication skills with clients and referring veterinarians Schedule & compensation
• $32-35 per hour, 3 days per week to start
• 30 hours per week guaranteed
