Job Description

Senior Emergency & Urgent Care Veterinary Technician Bark Ave Veterinary Urgent Care | Riverdale, NJ Full-Time | 3 Shifts Per Week | No Overnights $32-$40/hour, based on experience, credentialing and skill level Love ER Medicine, But Ready to Leave the Overnight ER Life Behind? Bark Ave is an independently owned veterinary urgent care hospital looking for an experienced, high-level veterinary technician/nurse to join our senior clinical team. This position may be an especially great fit for someone who loves emergency medicine but is ready for more structure, fewer overnight hours, and a different pace than a traditional 24/7 ER. We practice urgent care primarily by appointment, while still seeing walk-in emergencies and patients requiring stabilization. You still get the medicine, procedures, anesthesia, surgery and interesting cases that make emergency medicine exciting—without working overnight. Full-time is just three shifts per week, with four days off. The Person We're Looking For We're not looking for an entry-level technician. We need someone who can walk into a busy treatment floor, understand what is happening, prioritize appropriately and help keep both patients and people moving. You should be comfortable managing multiple patients, recognizing when a patient's condition is deteriorating, intervening appropriately in a crisis and communicating quickly with the veterinarian. Strong anesthesia skills are extremely important. Our ideal candidate is confident with: Anesthetic induction, maintenance, monitoring and recovery Recognizing anesthetic complications and responding appropriately Emergency triage and patient stabilization IV catheter placement and venipuncture Medical math, drug calculations and CRIs Digital radiography In-house laboratory diagnostics Patient monitoring and nursing care Oxygen therapy and emergency interventions Surgical preparation, sterile technique and surgical nursing Dental anesthesia and procedures Managing multiple patients with competing priorities Accurate medical documentation We Love Surgery Bark Ave has a strong interest in soft tissue surgery and procedural medicine. Our caseload may include urgent soft tissue procedures, wound repairs, abdominal surgery, foreign-body cases, pyometra, splenic surgery, endoscopy, dentistry and other procedures appropriate for our hospital. We practice high-quality, gold-standard medicine and want a technician who enjoys being an active participant in advanced patient care—not simply completing a task list. Clinical Leadership Technical ability is only part of this position. We are looking for someone who can also be a strong presence on the treatment floor.
That includes:
Helping maintain efficient hospital and patient flow Recognizing which patient or task needs attention first Helping support staff prioritize appropriately Delegating when needed Training and mentoring veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff Reinforcing protocols and high standards of patient care Anticipating what the veterinarian and team will need Remaining calm and solutions-focused when the hospital gets busy Helping create consistency and structure on the clinical floor You should be comfortable teaching others while also being receptive to feedback yourself. Inventory & Hospital Operations This role also helps support the day-to-day organization of the medical floor, including: Cubex inventory Treatment-floor inventory and stocking Identifying low or missing supplies Maintaining organized treatment, surgical and procedure areas Helping ensure equipment and supplies are ready before they are needed Supporting hospital protocols and workflow We are a small team, so leadership here is hands-on. Our Medicine Bark Ave is an appointment-based veterinary urgent care hospital designed to bridge the gap between general practice and the traditional emergency room. Some days are structured and appointment-driven. Other days, an emergency walks through the door and priorities change immediately. We want someone who enjoys both. We believe in thorough diagnostics, excellent anesthesia, strong pain management, thoughtful patient monitoring and practicing medicine we can be proud of. Schedule & Work-Life Balance This is a full-time, three-shift-per-week position. Candidates must have availability for shifts between 11 AM and 11 PM, Monday through Saturday. Weekend availability is required. There are no overnight shifts. That means you can continue doing exciting urgent and emergency medicine while having four days off each week and sleeping in your own bed at night. For an experienced ER technician who still loves the medicine but is feeling burned out by overnight schedules and the unpredictability of a traditional 24/7 ER, Bark Ave offers something different. Compensation $32-$40/hour , depending on experience, credentialing, emergency/critical care background, anesthesia proficiency and leadership capabilities.
CVT/LVT/RVT
credentials are valued, but we are also interested in exceptional experienced technicians who can demonstrate an advanced clinical skill set. We'd Love a Cover Letter Along with your resume, we'd love to receive a short cover letter telling us why this position caught your attention and why you think Bark Ave might be the right next step for you. Tell us about your ER, urgent care, specialty, anesthesia or surgical experience; what you feel most confident doing clinically; your experience training or mentoring others; and what you're looking for in your next hospital. If you love the medicine of ER but are ready for a more structured life without overnights , we'd especially love to hear from you. We're looking for someone who wants to practice excellent medicine, take ownership of their role, support the people around them and become an important part of a growing independently owned hospital.
