Job Description

Help veterinary technicians and doctors in the medical treatment of animals. Clean and disinfect areas of the clinic. Ensure the most humane care possible is provided to all animals brought to the shelter. Promote the shelter whenever possible.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clean and disinfect clinic (which may include surgery, treatment, bathrooms, atrium, etc.) and medical animal holding areas to the specifications of the medical clinic. Continual monitoring of food, water, and/or soiled bedding for replacement. Clean animal kennels as needed throughout the day. Feed according to directions by doctors/technicians. Restocking in clinic and related areas, as assigned. Once trained, provide safe and secure restraint of animals for technicians/doctors. Safely and securely retrieve animals from their kennels for doctors or technicians. Provide food and water to surgical animals after surgery, as directed. Interact with fellow staff members, both in the medical and other departments, with respect and professionalism. Other duties as assigned by technicians/doctors. Education, Skills and Work Experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal customers. Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is required . Computer proficiency. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary animal care. Flexibility, sense of urgency, and attention to detail are required. Ability to work schedule given including weekends and holidays. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Ability to pass drug test and background check. High school diploma or GED required Preference will be given to those with previous shelter and veterinary assistant experience.
