Job Description

Mobile Veterinary Surgery Technician (license required or student close to graduating) - Nassau and Suffolk Counties We are excited to be adding a licensed veterinary technician to our dedicated team of professionals. In this position, you will assist our practice owner/surgeon as he performs specialized procedures at general vet practices across Long Island. If you have a passion for providing exceptional care and like variety in your work, this is the job for you. Day hours, Monday through Friday; no on-call. Key Responsibilities:
LVT Responsibilities:
Assist or perform primary LVT duties (IVC (jugular catheter PRN), bloodwork, fluids, calculate drug doses, patient prep, etc.); Induce and maintain GA; Prepare fresh scrub bowls; Scrub in and assist; Radiographic positioning and study evaluation; Apply MRJ bandage; Monitor patient recovery; Clean O.R.
Instruments:
Clean and inspect instruments; Assemble packs; Wrap packs; Sterilize instruments/packs; Clean and maintain ultrasonic cleaner and autoclave; Maintain log Mobile logistics: Stock mobile supplies (maintain inventory); Prepack mobile supplies; Load and unload mobile supplies (into vehicle); Unpack and repack mobile supplies (at hospital); Charge and pack batteries; Periodically organize mobile supplies and check sterility dates; Periodically clean storage containers and drawers; Maintain inventory at home base
Communication:
Handle communications with clients, doctors, management, and hospital personnel (phone calls, emails, scheduling); Facilitate efficiency and time management when visiting practices
Administrative:
Establish, implement, maintain and update checklists/manual for all facets; Create picture book for patient prep Additional related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Maintain LVT in accordance with state laws
  • Related experience as LVT preferred, but will consider recent graduates with excellent academic credentials
  • Experience using autoclave, sterilizing and packing instruments
  • Extremely detail oriented and organized
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively with clients, doctors, management, and hospital personnel
  • Strong work ethic
  • Daily travel is required; must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in equipment and restrain/lift heavy animals
  • Able to work a flexible schedule
  • Have home work space available (for autoclave and ultrasonic cleaner)
