Job Description

The Veterinary Training Lead (Clinical Technician Role) is a hands-on clinical position that combines daily technician responsibilities with leadership in staff training, mentorship, and development. This role supports the growth and success of all team members by helping ensure consistent training, strong clinical skills, and adherence to hospital protocols — while continuing to function as an active veterinary technician on the floor. This position is designed to promote teamwork, learning, and high-quality patient care through guidance, support, and collaboration. Primary ResponsibilitiesClinical Technician Duties Perform all standard veterinary technician responsibilities, including: Patient restraint and handling Assisting doctors during exams and procedures Anesthesia monitoring and surgical support Laboratory testing and diagnostics Client communication and education Accurate medical record keeping Serve as a role model for medical quality, efficiency, and professionalism. Maintain a positive, calm presence on the floor, supporting patient and team safety. Training & Development Responsibilities Assist in onboarding and training of new team members (technicians, assistants, and support staff as applicable). Coordinate and help implement structured training plans and competency checklists. Provide hands-on coaching, shadowing, and real-time guidance. Support cross-training between departments when appropriate. Identify training gaps and communicate opportunities for improvement to leadership. Help ensure hospital protocols and standards are followed consistently. Leadership & Mentorship Act as a go-to resource for questions related to workflows, procedures, and daily operations. Provide supportive, respectful feedback focused on learning and growth. Encourage confidence, accountability, and professional development among staff. Promote a culture of teamwork, kindness, and continuous improvement. Support leads and management in reinforcing hospital standards in a positive way. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with management, doctors, and department leads to support training goals. Assist in updating training materials, SOPs, and reference guides as needed. Communicate trends, challenges, or successes observed during training. Help maintain consistency across shifts and teams. Schedule & Expectations This is a working technician role , with the majority of shifts spent performing clinical duties. Training and mentorship occur both formally and organically during scheduled shifts. May occasionally assist with scheduled training time, meetings, or check-ins as needed. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of veterinary technician experience (adjust as needed). Active veterinary technician license (CVT, LVT, or RVT) Strong clinical skills and commitment to medical quality. Positive, patient, and approachable teaching style. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to lead by example and remain calm in fast-paced situations. Desire to mentor and support team growth. Previous lead or mentorship experience. Familiarity with training checklists, onboarding processes, or SOP development. Interest in long-term professional development and leadership growth.
