Veterinary Technician job description Clinical nursing and patient care
- Triage emergency cases
- Assess and take a history
- Provide emergency first aid and nursing care for recovering or injured animals
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by a veterinarian
- Perform venipuncture (drawing blood) and place intravenous (IV) catheters
- Restrain animals Surgical & Anesthetic Support
- Prepare animals, surgical instruments, and operating suites for surgery
- Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia, including tracking vital signs like heart rate and respiration
- Assist veterinarians during medical, dental, and surgical procedures Laboratory & Diagnostics
- Perform diagnostic tests such as blood counts, urinalysis, and fecal exams
- Operate diagnostic imaging equipment to take X-rays and ultrasounds
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for in-house or external analysis Client Communication & Administration
- Educate pet owners on at-home care, nutrition, and preventative health
- Discuss pet medical conditions, explain treatment procedures
- Collect and record detailed animal case histories
- Maintain accurate medical records, logs (including controlled substances), and inventory Qualifications and Skills
- Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and passing the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Examination)
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs and stand/bend for long periods
- Technical proficiency in medical, dental, and laboratory procedures
- Strong communication for client education and teamwork Exotic Experience
- We treat exotic pets at our hospital.
Experience with exotic pets is a plus!
Pay:
$22.57 - $27.18 per hour
