Join the team at Pet Helpers as an Animal Care Technician and turn your passion into purpose! Animal Care Technicians are the glue that keeps the shelter running. If you are motivated, hard-working, dependable, and passionate about providing outstanding animal care, we want to hear from you! Key Responsibilities As an Animal Care Technician, you will play an essential role in the daily care and well-being of the animals in our shelter.
Responsibilities include:
Feed, medicate, and observe animals to ensure they receive outstanding care, and promptly inform supervisors of changes in animal health or behavior. Clean and sanitize shelter areas , including cages, kennels, food containers, yards, litter pans, laundry areas, and other animal care spaces. Exercise, socialize, and assist with training animals according to Pet Helpers' shelter guidelines. Maintain a safe, healthy, efficient, and pleasant environment for the animals, staff, volunteers, and public . Use strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals to support the daily operation of the shelter. Provide excellent customer service and maintain a friendly, professional demeanor while assisting members of the public with the selection and adoption of a companion animal. Maintain accurate animal records , including feeding, exercise, and behavior information. Become familiar with the Pet Helpers website and effectively communicate the principles, purposes, and objectives of the organization. Work as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment where priorities can change quickly. Schedule & Compensation Full-time position Four 10-hour shifts , scheduled from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Schedule includes one weekend day Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays Opportunity for a pay increase after 120 days of positive employment for full-time employees After all, the animals need us to care for them every day of the year! Requirements & Skills We are looking for individuals who are ready to work hard, learn, and make a difference.
Successful candidates must have:
Experience, general knowledge, and understanding of animal shelters or veterinary practices preferred, but not required . High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement). Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk and stand on your feet throughout a full normal workday. Ability to safely manage reactive, energetic, or strong-pulling large dogs (60+ lbs.) , requiring strong physical stamina, control, and confidence. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy, team-oriented environment . Ability to utilize time-management skills and initiative to solve problems with minimal supervision or direction. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours , including evenings (until 6:00 p.m.), weekends (one weekend day), and some holidays.
