We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. Responsibilities Patient Care & Nursing Triage patients and obtain accurate medical histories from clients Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats during examinations and procedures Obtain and record vital signs and patient assessments Draw blood from all standard venous access points Place and maintain intravenous catheters Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, and prescribed treatments as directed by veterinarians Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient status Assist with patient recovery and ongoing nursing care Diagnostic Procedures Run in-house laboratory samples and prepare samples for outside reference laboratories Perform radiographs and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures Assist with laboratory testing, cytology, heartworm testing, fecal testing, and other diagnostic procedures Maintain accurate patient records, treatment sheets, and laboratory documentation Surgery & Anesthesia Prepare patients for surgery and procedures Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients Maintain accurate anesthesia monitoring records Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures Prepare surgical instruments and maintain proper sterilization protocols Follow aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety Client Service & Administrative Support Educate clients regarding medications, treatments, preventive care, nutrition, and post-operative care Provide discharge instructions and follow-up guidance Input medical notes, treatments, and charges into the practice management software Cross-train in basic client service and reception responsibilities as needed Maintain professional and compassionate communication with clients at all times Hospital Operations Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary hospital environment Assist with kennel duties, feeding, cleaning, and monitoring patients as needed Stock supplies and assist with inventory management Support team members in daily hospital operations Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant required Strong animal handling and restraint skills Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, radiology, and anesthesia monitoring preferred Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with veterinary practice management software and Microsoft Office products Excellent communication and customer service skills Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team Working Conditions The successful candidate will: Work in and adhere to a smoke-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free workplace Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds Sit, stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and move throughout the hospital during assigned shifts Stand for extended periods, including up to four hours at a time Work a flexible schedule, including closing shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient, client, and hospital information Meet regular attendance requirements and arrive prepared for scheduled shifts Benefits 401(k) Retirement Plan Paid Time Off (PTO) Employee Pet Care Discount Continuing Education Opportunities Uniform Allowance Life Insurance Flexible Scheduling Career Advancement Opportunities Competitive Compensation Fun and Supportive Work Environment Opportunity to Make a Difference in the Lives of Pets and Their Families Our Culture & Expectations At Trail Pet Hospital, we believe great patient care starts with a strong team culture.
