ICU / Treatment Equine TechnicianAbout Mid-South Equine Mid-South Equine is a leading equine sports medicine hospital dedicated to helping equine athletes perform at their highest level. Our practice specializes in advanced diagnostics, lameness evaluations, regenerative medicine, rehabilitation, imaging and intensive care . We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and compassionate ICU / Treatment Equine Technician to provide high-quality overnight patient care and support our hospitalized and critical care caseload. Position Overview Join our dynamic overnight ICU team and play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to equine patients requiring hospitalization, intensive monitoring, and advanced medical treatment. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with veterinarians and support staff in a collaborative environment focused on patient recovery, comfort, and well-being. The ideal candidate is confident working independently, thrives in a fast-paced hospital setting, and is passionate about equine medicine and patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide overnight monitoring and nursing care for hospitalized, post-procedure, and ICU equine patients. Administer prescribed treatments and medications, including IV, IM, and oral medications, fluid therapy, bandage changes, and supportive care. Monitor and accurately document patient vital signs, pain levels, intake/output, and responses to treatment. Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian on call. Manage overnight care for performance horses recovering from diagnostics, lameness procedures, surgery, emergency treatment, or illness. Assist with emergency admissions and after-hours treatments as needed. Ensure hospitalized horses have appropriate food, water, bedding, and comfort measures throughout the shift. Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, ICU stalls, pharmacy supplies, and medical equipment. Complete detailed patient handoffs to ensure continuity of care between shifts. Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and biosecurity procedures. QualificationsRequired Previous experience working as an equine veterinary technician or in an equine hospital setting. Strong horse handling skills and confidence working with performance horses and critical-care patients. Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent attention to detail. Strong communication, organizational, and recordkeeping skills. Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks. Availability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Preferred Experience in equine ICU, emergency, or referral hospital settings. Experience administering medications and monitoring hospitalized patients. Veterinary Technician certification or licensure. Ideal Candidate Thrives in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment.
