Depending on your experience and training, responsibilities may include: Assisting veterinarians during outpatient appointments Obtaining patient histories and preparing exam rooms Safely restraining dogs and cats for examinations and procedures Collecting and preparing blood, urine, fecal, cytology, and other diagnostic samples Running in-house laboratory testing Preparing medications and prescriptions under veterinary supervision Taking digital radiographs Assisting with dental procedures and dental radiographs Preparing patients for anesthesia and surgery Setting up and maintaining the surgical suite Monitoring patients during anesthesia under appropriate supervision Recovering and caring for postoperative patients Caring for hospitalized patients Placing IV catheters and assisting with fluid therapy when trained and permitted Maintaining accurate medical records Cleaning, disinfecting, stocking, and preparing treatment and patient-care areas Communicating clearly and compassionately with pet owners Helping maintain an efficient flow throughout the hospital More Than Routine General Practice LifeCare provides an opportunity to gain exposure to cases and procedures that many veterinary assistants don't routinely see.
Our team works with:
Advanced Dentistry Full-mouth dental radiographs, surgical extractions and comprehensive dental procedures. Soft-Tissue Surgery Including abdominal procedures, mass removals, bladder surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and other advanced procedures. Orthopedic Surgery Including TPLO procedures, fracture repairs, FHO and other orthopedic cases. Anesthesia & Patient Monitoring Modern anesthesia monitoring, ventilatory support and structured perioperative patient care. Diagnostic Imaging Digital radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound and developing echocardiography services. You are not expected to know all of this when you start. Qualifications Preferred:
Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary technician experience Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiography, anesthesia or dentistry Familiarity with veterinary practice-management software Also encouraged to apply: Motivated candidates with less veterinary experience who demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability and a genuine desire to build veterinary technical skills. Physical Requirements Veterinary medicine is physically demanding. Candidates should be able to safely perform the essential duties of the position, including standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling and assisting with lifting or positioning animals and equipment, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
