Job Title:
HVAC Technician Job Description The HVAC Technician provides routine and specialized building repair and maintenance support within a hospital environment, using a computerized maintenance management system to ensure safe, reliable operation of hospital facilities and equipment. This role diagnoses, repairs, and maintains mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and control systems, and offers technical support and guidance to facility staff while actively participating in safety programs and training. Responsibilities Use the computerized maintenance management system to receive, prioritize, and complete work orders for building repair and maintenance. Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems, including pumps, belt-driven equipment, gear reduction drives, piping, and related components. Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and equipment used for wastewater distribution and disposal. Install, test, maintain, and diagnose electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures, components, and systems. Maintain and troubleshoot control systems, including sensors, limit switches, solenoids, motors, and other control devices. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and related equipment to ensure reliable operation. Service and maintain building automation systems and assist with adjustments to optimize performance and comfort. Work on pneumatic controls, DDC controls, PE switches, damper controls, large fan arrays, low-voltage safety circuits, and VAV systems. Maintain and repair large exhaust fans, fan coil units, DX split units, humidifier operations, exhaust systems, and hydronic pumps of various sizes. Assist with air balancing, metal duct work, and inspection and maintenance of fire and smoke dampers. Perform general facility and building maintenance tasks, including carpentry and general mechanical repairs as needed. Read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics to support accurate installation, troubleshooting, and repair. Provide technical support and general guidance to facility staff regarding the operation and repair of facility equipment, components, and utilities. Participate in hospital and departmental safety programs, educational opportunities, and related training to maintain compliance and best practices. Document work performed, parts used, and system status in the computerized maintenance management system. Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to support continuous hospital operations. Essential Skills Proficiency in using computerized systems and computerized maintenance management systems for all aspects of job performance, including work order management and documentation. Hands-on experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and utility systems in a facilities or building maintenance environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for complex building and HVAC systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics for electrical and control systems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively unsupervised and within a team environment. Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills to communicate with staff and document work clearly. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and significant overtime as required. Experience with HVAC systems, including commercial HVAC equipment and building automation systems. Electrical troubleshooting skills for low-voltage safety circuits and control systems. Experience performing preventive maintenance and general building maintenance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with pneumatic controls, DDC controls, PE switches, and damper controls. Hands-on experience working with boilers, chillers, and cooling towers. Experience maintaining large fan arrays, large exhaust fans, fan coil units, and DX split units. Knowledge of humidifier operations, exhaust fans, and hydronic pumps of various sizes. Familiarity with VAV maintenance and air balancing procedures. Experience with metal duct work and inspection and maintenance of fire/smoke dampers. Background in carpentry and general mechanical repairs within a facilities setting. Ability to perform installation, repair, and preventive maintenance across multiple building systems. Comfort working in a hospital or healthcare environment with critical infrastructure. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based inside a hospital, working directly with critical building and facility systems in an active healthcare environment. The standard schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the requirement to work weekends, holidays, and substantial overtime to support continuous operations. You will work with a variety of technologies and equipment, including HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, building automation systems, pneumatic and DDC controls, electrical systems, plumbing systems, hydronic pumps, fan arrays, exhaust fans, fan coil units, DX split units, and related mechanical and control components. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to hospital policies, and collaboration with facility staff, with appropriate attire and conduct expected in a clinical setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
