7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week; 212 daysLocations:
Billerica, MA Reporting to: School Principal Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. We provide high quality academic, therapeutic and vocational services to individuals referred by local school districts and social service agencies. We also provide ongoing professional development and training experiences for educators and educational agencies. Recognizing that the educational environment rapidly changes, Valley Collaborative creates, adapts, and provides flexible programming to address evolving needs. We provide an environment within which students and others can maximize educational and/or occupational skills. By sharing its resources with multiple school districts and social service agencies, its programs maintain superior quality and reasonable costs to those it serves, by meeting or exceeding state standards, and achieving economies of scale.Severe Special Education Teacher Requirements:
- Experience working with students with multiple diagnoses including, but not limited to intellectual impairment, autism, multiple disabilities
- Experience and training in de-escalation/physical intervention strategies;
- Experience working with students who utilize Augmentative and Alternative Communication;
- Work as part of an inter-disciplinary school team to ensure students' needs of students are met;
- Work with nurse, SLP, OT, PT, and BCBA to develop and implement IEPs;
- Maintain an organized, safe and productive classroom in order for students to make adequate progress
- Consistent contact with families;
- Supervising classroom aides;
- Develop IEP goals and progress reports that are reflective of student's needs.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to approach individuals in a creative and thoughtful manner
- Flexibility to meet identified student needs.
- A strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.
- Model respect, honesty, consideration, responsibility, and positive attitude with both peers and students
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as requested
- Provide transportation for students in Collaborative vehicles, when necessary
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
- DESE certification in Severe Disabilities-All levels
Physical Demands:
- Constant standing or walking.
- Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties.
- Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively.
