IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN

Irrigation Technician (Parks) general purpose Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the installation, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems within the City Parks. Also responsible for a variety of maintenance work in maintaining City Parks, including landscaping, ball field maintenance, construction projects, parkland mowing and pool operations. These tasks are conducted under the broad oversight of the Supervisor.

Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CORE COMPETENCIES

Repairs and/or replaces all breaks in the irrigation system at City Parks. Repairs and/or replaces broken irrigation heads at City Parks. Installs new irrigation in areas where irrigation is to be added at City Parks. Provides hands on training of staff in the repair of irrigation systems and the maintenance of these systems. Assists the Supervisor with the review and analysis of operations. Assists the Supervisor with ordering equipment and projecting needs based on workloads. Provides reports to the Supervisor regarding workloads, trends, data analysis and work indicators. Maintains radio or other communication with the Supervisor. Operates heavy equipment, dump and haul trucks, small engine equipment, and hand tools essential to Parks maintenance. Secures work area at the end of the working day. Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and complies with the City of Killeen driving policy. Performs other duties as assigned. Required minimum qualifications

Education and Experience:

1. Graduation from a high school or equivalent, 2. One (1) year of related experience and have Irrigation Tech or Irrigator license; or 3. Two (2) years of related experience and ability to obtain license within 1 year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Must have a working knowledge of Toro, Rainbird and Hunter irrigation heads, control boxes and setups. 2. Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. 3. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. 4. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. 5. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. 6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. 7. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. 8. Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. 9. REQUIREMENTS

Employee must have a valid Texas driver's license by date of hire. Tools and equipment used Various equipment used in mowing operations including, but not limited to pickup truck with trailer, tractors with mowing attachments, trencher and wire locator, mowers, trimmers, blowers, saws, hand tools, herbicide application and safety equipment as required.
