Job Description

General Information ED3 is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Definition Under the general supervision of the Lineman Foreman, the Journeyman Lineman performs highly skilled, journey-level work related to the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground electric transmission, distribution, and service systems. Work includes, but is not limited to, power lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment, substations, and related electrical infrastructure. This position may work independently or as part of a crew and is expected to exercise sound judgment, technical expertise, and strict adherence to safety practices. Job Summary The Journeyman Lineman is responsible for safely performing journey-level electrical line work while ensuring compliance with established operating procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulations. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: Inspecting completed and in-progress work to ensure compliance with established construction standards, operating procedures, and safety rules. Performing switching, tagging, grounding, and clearance procedures in accordance with utility safety practices. Applying appropriate safety procedures and using personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with electrical hazards. Establishing and maintaining proper electric line clearances with other utilities, contractors, and the public. Installing, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage connectors, transformers, switches, conductors, insulators, service lines, poles, meters, and metering equipment, including work in manholes, vaults, and confined spaces. Responding to outages, emergency calls, and after-hours trouble calls, including storm restoration and system emergencies. Essential Functions
  • Operates boom trucks, bucket trucks, digger derricks, line trucks, and other power-driven equipment and machinery.
  • Operates electrical switches, reclosers, sectionalizers, and related equipment under established procedures.
  • Uses common hand tools, power tools, and specialized line tools to construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric power lines.
  • Performs live-line work using approved methods and protective equipment, when qualified and authorized.
  • Coordinates work activities with crew members, system operators, and supervisors.
  • Performs related and all other duties as assigned.
  • Must have work ethics that include safety as a priority in all day-to-day duties.
Qualifications Possession of a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction plans, staking sheets, maps, one-line diagrams, and schematics related to electric transmission and distribution systems. Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete work assignments safely and efficiently with minimal supervision. Ability to comprehend written instructions, safety manuals, operating procedures, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of electrical theory related to power distribution systems. Requirements Thorough knowledge of safety rules and practices of the trade, including ED3's Safety Manual, OSHA regulations, and applicable Arizona State safety rules. Ability to work from elevated heights greater than ten (10) feet, including bucket trucks, platforms, and poles. Ability to climb poles, ladders, and towers on a regular and/or continuous basis as required. Ability to trim trees and vegetation around energized electrical lines using approved tools and methods. Ability to distinguish colors for identification of circuits, conductors, and color-coded electrical components. Ability to move, position, and secure equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with mechanical assistance when required. Ability to set up and maintain traffic control devices, including barricades, cones, and warning signs, when working near vehicular traffic.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and properly care for tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as required.
  • Must reside within 30 miles of the ED3 service area or relocate within six (6) months of hire and maintain residence within the service area while in this classification.

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including rubber gloves, sleeves, harnesses, hard hats, and flame-resistant clothing. Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the lineman trade. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a journey-level lineman with an electric utility. Experience with both overhead and underground distribution systems preferred. Work Environment
  • Work is performed at various field locations throughout the ED3 service area.
  • Position requires regular outdoor field work.
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions, including energized high-voltage lines, confined spaces, traffic hazards, and heavy equipment.
  • Strict adherence to safety rules, procedures, and the use of protective equipment is required at all times.
Pay:
From $62.47 per hour
