Part-time, Full-time Job Overview:
The Race Track Corner Marshal is responsible for ensuring the safety and smooth operation of race events by monitoring assigned track sections, communicating with race control, and responding to incidents on the track. This role requires vigilance, quick decision-making, and a thorough understanding of race procedures and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Track Monitoring:
  • Observe and monitor assigned sections of the race track for any irregularities or hazards.
  • Use flags and signals to communicate with drivers, ensuring they are aware of track conditions and potential dangers.
  • Maintain a high level of concentration and alertness throughout the event.
2.
Incident Response:
  • Respond promptly to on-track incidents, including collisions, mechanical failures, and other emergencies.
  • Assist drivers in distress and provide first aid or other assistance as necessary until emergency services arrive.
  • Clear debris and ensure the track is safe for continued racing.
3.
Communication:
  • Maintain constant communication with race control and other corner marshals using radios or other communication devices.
  • Relay information about track conditions, incidents, and driver behavior to race control accurately and promptly.
  • Follow instructions from race control and report any concerns or issues immediately.
4.
Flagging:
  • Display the correct flags to inform drivers of track conditions, such as yellow (caution), blue (faster car approaching), red (stop), and others as specified by race regulations.
  • Ensure flags are clearly visible and used appropriately according to the situation.
5.
Pre-Race Preparation:
  • Arrive at the track early to participate in pre-race briefings and receive assignments.
  • Set up and inspect flagging equipment, radios, and other necessary tools.
  • Familiarize yourself with the track layout, emergency access points, and procedures.
6.
Post-Race Duties:
  • Participate in post-race debriefings to review the event and discuss any incidents or improvements.
  • Assist with the cleanup and organization of equipment and materials used during the race.
  • Provide feedback on race operations and suggest improvements for future events.
7.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of drivers, spectators, and fellow marshals.
  • Ensure compliance with race regulations and procedures at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to stay updated on best practices and safety standards.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in motorsport safety is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a motorsport environment or similar role is preferred.
  • Strong observational and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Familiarity with race track operations and flagging procedures.
Working Conditions:
  • Part-time or full-time position with variable hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Primarily outdoor work environment with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to loud noise levels and fast-moving vehicles.
