Job Description

Overview The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of young learners. The teacher delivers high-quality instruction aligned to district curriculum and state standards while fostering strong relationships with students, families, and staff. The Kindergarten Teacher helps students build foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, communication, collaboration, and responsible behavior. Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction appropriate for kindergarten-aged students. Create a positive classroom environment that promotes student learning, inclusion, and social-emotional development. Differentiate instruction to meet the varying academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology tools to support student engagement and achievement. Assess student progress regularly and use data to guide instruction and interventions. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, behavior, and student performance. Communicate effectively and consistently with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities. Collaborate with colleagues, intervention staff, special education personnel, and administrators to support student success. Implement classroom management practices that promote positive behavior and a safe learning environment. Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and district initiatives. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties. Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety procedures. Required and Preferred Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. Valid state teaching license/certification appropriate for Kindergarten or Early Childhood Education. Knowledge of child development and early learning instructional practices. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience teaching in an elementary or early childhood setting. Experience with differentiated instruction and intervention strategies. Knowledge of educational technology and digital learning tools. Training in social-emotional learning, literacy instruction, or trauma-informed practices. Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day. Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, bend, crouch, and move frequently while working with young children. Ability to lift, carry, and move classroom materials and supplies up to 25 pounds. Ability to supervise and actively engage students in classroom, playground, and other school environments. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. Ability to operate standard classroom technology and office equipment. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a classroom and school environment. Regular interaction with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members. May include exposure to noise levels associated with active young learners and group activities. Requires participation in school events, meetings, professional development, and assigned duties outside the regular instructional day. Work may involve managing challenging student behaviors and responding to emergency situations when necessary.
