Distribution System Operator

Job Description

About the
Role:
We are seeking a Distribution System Operator I to join the Electric System Restoration and Operations team. This position is critical in maintaining a safe and reliable electric distribution system. You'll be responsible for analyzing outage reports, directing field crews, and ensuring safe and efficient power restoration.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and operate the electrical distribution and substation systems. Dispatch crews and issue safety clearances using Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Respond to SCADA alarms and coordinate actions with field personnel. Determine emergency switching to isolate trouble and restore power. Prioritize restoration for life-support/medical alert customers and other critical accounts. Maintain communication with crews and update system status in real time. Complete other assigned duties and participate in special projects.
Work Schedule:
This role follows a unique rotating 28-day schedule : Week 1: Day shift (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) for 7 consecutive days Week 2: 7 days off Week 3: Night shift (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) for 7 consecutive nights Week 4: 7 days off Then the cycle repeats. This schedule allows for significant time off while requiring full focus during on-weeks. Testing Requirements -
COBRA Test:
All applicants must complete and pass the COBRA test , which includes: A question-and-answer section A realistic simulator exercise simulating a high-pressure, chaotic workday This test assesses your ability to stay calm, multitask effectively , and make smart decisions when things start to happen quickly.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in electrical/engineering technology, mathematics, or a related technical field (OR a minimum of 2 years of experience in the power industry such as substations, line maintenance, or generation)
Preferred Skills:
Computer-savvy — must confidently flip between multiple programs and systems Able to remain calm and composed under pressure Strong written and verbal communication Familiar with SCADA systems, GIS tools, and office software Able to think clearly and make decisions during emergency scenarios
