Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To perform laboratory testing to support process control, quality control, and finished product release, while ensuring compliance with approved methods, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY 1.
Calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results. 2. Analyze raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products in accordance with approved methods and specifications. 3. Perform quality control testing for process monitoring, additives, and final product release prior to shipment. 4. Accurately document test results, calculations, and observations in a timely manner, ensuring data integrity and traceability. 5. Enter analytical data into required systems and complete associated calculations and reports. 6. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve analytical or equipment issues; coordinate repairs or corrective actions as needed. 7. Complete and maintain all required QC, ISO, IATF, safety, and regulatory documentation. 8. Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO/IATF standards, environmental, health and safety requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations. 9. Participate in audits, inspections, daily NTG (Nothing Touching the Ground) checks, and operational clean sweep activities. 10. Actively support pellet loss prevention, containment, cleanup, and proper disposal practices. 11. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment following 6S or similar standards. 12. Attend and actively participate in safety meetings, departmental meetings, and required training programs. 13. Communicate results, issues, and trends effectively with operations, quality, and management teams. 14. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to testing methods, efficiency, quality, and safety. 15. Work outside normal business hours as required to support production or quality needs. 16. Maintain regular, reliable attendance and professional conduct. 17. Assist with inventory control of laboratory supplies, reagents, and standards as needed. 18. Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory and operational objectives.
III. QUALIFICATIONS A. TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA 1.
Previous Related Experience Required High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of eight hours of college-level chemistry; or an associate's degree in Chemical Technology (Laboratory); or three years of industrial laboratory experience; or at least 15 consecutive months of experience in a Polyolefins, PVC, or Polymer Analysis laboratory. 2. Technical Skills Required to Perform This Job
  • Operation, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair of laboratory instruments
  • Wet chemistry techniques (titrations, dilutions, reagent preparation, standardization)
  • Sample preparation for raw materials, in-process, and finished products
  • Execution of routine analytical testing per approved SOPs
  • Basic method troubleshooting and verification
  • Routine calibration and calibration verification of lab equipment
  • Accurate data entry and calculation (ppm, ppb, %, dilution factors)
  • Use of LIMS or other electronic data systems (as applicable) 3. Education High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of eight hours of college-level chemistry, or an associate's degree in Chemical Technology (Laboratory) preferred. 4. Other Certification/Training Required
  • Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire.
  • Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
