Job Description
Position Summary:
TheLaboratory Technician performs compound processing tasks and second/ QC checks in the lab such as: supporting the weighing of shipping lists, processing of new compounds & returns, and performing inventory procedures. Additionally, the Laboratory Technician will also support the creation of 96 well plates of soluble assays and replicates, shipment fulfillment, laboratory cleanliness, and the disposal of hazardous and/or chemical wastes. Key responsibilities Fulfill shipping lists daily, including retrieving and weighing samples from compound stock containers, completing lists in the order processing and inventory management system(s), labeling samples, and providing completed lists for shipment Perform second/QC checks on various operational activities performed by colleagues. Set up supplies/materials for plate replication procedures; run automated plate replication equipment. Perform receipt and accessioning procedures on incoming compounds as well as those stored at the repository; this may include weighing, data entry, labeling, and shelving samples. Use the inventory management system to perform simple queries, basic updates, generation of labels, and printing shipping lists and reports. Perform shipment preparation and packaging of compounds and plates to send to research laboratories or organizations. Maintain laboratory and compound storage areas in a clean and organized manner. Use available resources to recognize and segregate hazardous substances for storage or disposal and assist with labeling of hazardous and chemical waste for disposal. Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facility safety guidelines. This includes performing initial QC checks on all procedures they perform; Provide input to potential changes in SOPs when noting deficiencies or opportunities for improvement in existing procedures. Participate in process improvement activities. Other duties will be assigned. What are we looking for? We are looking for someone who can: Communicate clearly verbally and in written form. Prepare reports using Excel and know how to operate Windows and other Microsoft Office applications. Take part in minor chemical spill clean-up efforts, to include use of full-face respirator. Acquire and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Demonstrate strong logic and problem-solving skills. Show high level of integrity, intensity, innovation, and involvement!Education/Experience:
Associate Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific field. OR One-year professional experience in laboratory setting demonstrating proficiency in related lab skills.Work Schedule:
Core hours are 8AM to 5PM; What does day-to-day look like The chemical warehouse environment has a strong odor! May need to work in a cold environment (Walk-in Refrigerator and Freezer) from time to time. Will handle dry ice and hazardous research compounds. Use of platform ladders to access compounds. Wearing personal protective equipment, including nitrile gloves, lab coat, safety goggles/glasses for several hours. Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Work involves standing/walking daily and using a computer and chemical fume hood for multiple hours per day. Rarely, a full-face respirator may be needed, typically for no more than 2 hours at a time. Compensation and Benefits The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $20.51-$30.76.
