THE ROLE
The Landfill Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating daily field operations at the landfill facilities. This role reports directly to the Environmental Superintendent or their designee. The Foreman is a hands-on position that works alongside the crew and regularly operates heavy equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Lead and coordinate daily work activities of field crews to ensure safe and efficient operations Work with the Environmental Superintendent to execute daily plans, schedules, and assigned projects Operate heavy equipment as needed and provide relief coverage for crew members Ensure equipment is operated in a safe and effective manner to minimize risk of injury, property damage, or environmental impact Provide on-the-job training and guidance to crew members on proper equipment operation and safety procedures Use GPS - equipped machinery and a GPS rover to verify grading elevations Direct crews in fill sequencing, excavation, site maintenance, and improvements Perform and verify daily safety inspections and basic maintenance checks on equipment Ensure equipment is properly secured and stored at the end of each shift Communicate equipment issues and maintenance needs to the Superintendent Complete required daily logs, reports, and operational documentation Enforce safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements on-site Perform other related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold Exposure to dust, odors, noise, and potentially hazardous materials may occur; appropriate safety precautions and PPE are required The role requires physical activity, extended periods of standing or operating equipment, and the ability to respond to changing site conditions
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of experience in the following: Heavy equipment operation (front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, haul trucks, scrapers, etc.) Grade control Field leadership or crew lead/foreman experience Equipment safety practices and workplace safety procedures Landfill operations Basic recordkeeping and daily reporting Equipment inspection, cleaning, and maintenance procedures Regulatory awareness (OSHA, MSHA, and applicable environmental standards) Strong leadership and ability to direct field crews effectively Practical decision-making and problem-solving skills Ability to prioritize tasks and manage daily workflow Strong communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Proficiency in safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment Basic computer skills (Word and Excel) for reporting and documentation Time management and organizational skills Must pass drug screen and physical.
