Lateral or Entry Level Police Officer

Out of state reciprocity accepted must meet requirements set forth by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center NLETC. The Nebraska City Police Department, a Civil Service Department, is currently accepting applications for Police Officer (Entry-level or Certified). We are seeking individuals with integrity who are committed to public service, dedicated and professional, with a willingness and compassion to work together with the citizens of Nebraska City to maintain a healthy and safe community.

Requirements:

High School Graduate or GED, at least 21 years of age, with no serious misdemeanors or felony convictions. Testing will include physical fitness test as required by NLETC, written exam, oral interviews, extensive background check, and psychological interview. Officers certified in Nebraska will be granted a lateral entry upon completion of FTO program (wage dependent upon experience). Candidates certified in other states will be granted lateral entry upon successful completion of NLETC requirements for reciprocity certification and FTO.

Vacation:

A Patrol Officer earns 80.08 vacation hours per year with the opportunity to earn additional vacation after 5, 10, and 15 full years of service.

Sick leave:

Cumulative to 960 hours. Payout of 50% over 960 hours at end of year.

Retirement plan 9% employee contribution with 9% match by the city, social security, health and dental insurance (with 95% Health insurance paid by city), long term disability insurance and a term life insurance policy provided by the City. Uniforms, equipment and weapons are furnished to each officer with $750 uniform allowance per year. Mobile data computers in patrol units with real-time dispatch. Specialized units include. K-9, DARE, Tactical operations. Instructor certifications in specialized fields.

Aquatic Center:

Family pass provided yearly.

Wildwood Golf Course:

Family pass provided yearly. FOP membership available.

Residency requirement:

Within 60-mile response time. $63,689.60 - $77,417.60 (wage dependent upon experience, Lateral Officer).
