Position Overview:
The Adoption Counselor plays a vital role in connecting animals with their forever homes. This position involves working closely with the public to assess the needs of both animals and potential adopters, providing exceptional customer service, and facilitating the adoption process from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
Adoption Counseling:
Assist potential adopters by assessing their needs, educating them about our animals, and matching them with suitable pets based on lifestyle and preferences.
Animal Care Knowledge:
Learn and communicate detailed information about each animal's behavior, health, and history to provide accurate guidance to adopters.
Customer Service:
Provide a warm and welcoming experience for visitors, answering questions and addressing concerns about adoption and animal care.
Application Processing:
Review and process adoption applications, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and accurately maintained in our records. Ensure proper documentation protocol being followed for potential adopters.
Post-Adoption Support:
Follow up with adopters to provide resources, answer questions, and ensure successful transitions for both the animals and their new families.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with fellow staff and volunteers to support shelter operations, including daily animal care, events, and community outreach initiatives.
Volunteer Collaboration:
Assist volunteers throughout the adoption process
Data Management:
Information noted during interview process is properly communicated and documented in the system
Animal Care:
Maintain cleanliness of animal living areas while ensuring appropriate animal interaction and handling to meet their needs
Qualifications:
Passion for animal welfare and experience in customer service or counseling preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse individuals and families. Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Basic knowledge of animal behavior and care is a plus; training will be provided. Must be at least 18 years of age to work directly with animals. Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as needed.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work in a dynamic environment with exposure to animals. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and stand for long periods. Reliable transportation to/from work is required.
