CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE JEFFERSON PROTECTION AND ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY

OCCURRED.Under direction, performs responsible work involving the supervision of employees engaged in attending to animals. Employees in this classification handle the daily operations and supervision of JPAWS Care Attendant I and JPAWS Care Attendant II's. Position is responsible for training staff, supervising staff, and performing daily administrative activities. This position performs a variety of supervisory duties to include assigning, instructing, and reviewing work of subordinate staff, monitoring work performance, maintaining standards through the effective coordination of activities, and handling various personnel issues. Assists Veterinarian in the administration of inoculation and euthanasia. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Meets one of the following:

I. Current employment and civil service status with Jefferson Parish in a classification at or above JPAWS Care Attendant II; PLUS , two (2) years of paid work experience with Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services. II. Possession of an Associate's degree or major coursework (successful completion of at least 15 credit hours) in Animal Science, Disease and Disease Control of Small Animals, Veterinary Technology, Zoology, or a related field; PLUS , one (1) year of paid work experience in an animal facility setting. III. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate; PLUS , three (3) years of paid work experience in an animal facility setting, to include the handling and care of animals and the preparing and maintaining of records/reports.

Preferred:

Current certification as an Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET) issued by the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range.
