Experience :

a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an ordinance officer, law enforcement officer, building inspector, zoning administrator, or closely related profession. Reports to : Township Supervisor Rate of pay: Part-time, $30/hour Job Duties The Zoning Enforcement Officer is responsible for ensuring that township codes, regulations and ordinances are upheld in the community. This position works to identify violations, investigate complaints, educate the public and ensure that code violations are corrected. The successful candidate ensures that all laws and regulations are followed.

Code Enforcement Officer Duties and Responsibilities:

Respond to citizen complaints and investigate alleged ordnance violations Enforce building, fire, health, zoning codes and ordinances. (With the assistance of the Fire Chief and County Building Inspector when needed) Prepare reports of violations and issue citations, when needed Provide ordnance information and assistance for clarity and education Research and analyze properties to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Develop and implement a compliance enforcement plan to assist residence Monitor development projects for compliance with codes and ordinances (Zoning Inspections) Participate in related hearings and court proceedings as needed Submit written reports monthly to the Township Board and Planning Commission, summarizing the monthly activities of the Zoning Enforcement Officer Attend meetings of the Township Board, Planning Commission and Board of Appeals, as directed by the Township Supervisor Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to exercise judgment and to communicate in a tactful, diplomatic and professional The position involves a great deal of public contact, involving people with a variety of levels of expertise. Good communication skills and patience are important. General knowledge of the municipal, state and federal ordinances, regulations and statutes. Specific knowledge of land use and environmental ordinances regulations and statutes preferred. This position will require ability to ascertain which regulations apply to specific proposed activities and uses. Ability to interpret all types of building and site plans including topographical maps, aerial photographs, soil maps; to comprehend engineering and architectural drawings, and construction specifications; and to research environmental and historical land use. Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and correspondence and to provide comprehensible oral presentations concerning information, problems and recommendations on environmental, and zoning issues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other office staff, the public and members of various boards/commissions while enforcing Proficient with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle. Ability to make inspections or site visits in field locations. Ability to maneuver as necessary to inspect materials, buildings, and facilities. Kneeling, stooping, reaching, climbing required. Some inspections may involve walking over uneven or rough terrain.
