Job Description
Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Care and Enforcement is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16.88 - $20.04. The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform. Answers inquiries via phone and email regarding shelter services, hours of operation, donations, trap sign out/in, county animal licensing, and basic animal care questions. Receives and collects both cash and credit payments at the shelter. Ability to process the proper change with cash transactions. Ability to perform daily fund reconciliation and accounting reports. Coordinates and participates in volunteer activities and adoption events that occur during the week and weekends. Assists citizens with animal control business; assists citizens by providing information regarding adoptions, the reclaiming of animals, State and County Animal Control ordinances and proper pet care. Assists with purchasing and inventory control. Other duties as required. Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalency AND a minimum of 2 years of clerical experience involving intensive typing/data entry and related records maintenance is required. The position requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time, excellent customer service skills, and to perform ongoing production oriented operation of keyboard devices or VDT's (video display terminals) where speed, accuracy, and volume of work are the primary factors. The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
