FRANKLIN COUNTY DEPUTY CORONER

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB

To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Franklin County Coroner's office by assisting in the functions of the office, while acting under the direct orders of the Coroner or Chief Deputy Coroner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB 1.

Assists with the transportation of bodies both local and long distance. 2. Serves subpoenas as requested. 3. Secures scenes and the property of the deceased. 4. Assists with the inventory of property and be a witness as to the contents. 5. Assists with investigations when requested to do so. 6. Prepares and files case reports as required. 7. Prepares and files incident reports as necessary. 8. Interacts with State and County departments, general public and others as necessary to perform essential job duties. 9. Utilizes equipment such as 2-way radios, restraints, stretchers, computer, typewriter, motor vehicle, etc. as necessary to carry out essential job duties. 10. Performs basic vehicle maintenance and complete related forms.

OTHER DUTIES OF JOB 1.

Attends trainings, meetings, and seminars as required. 2. Performs other job-related duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives instruction and supervision from the Coroner or Chief Deputy in regard to duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS 1.

At times can be hazardous, i.e. general environmental conditions surrounding where bodies are found are frequently undesirable and hazardous. 2. There is no assurance of complete safety, at all times utmost precautions must be exercised during the performance of duties. 3. Works with average to above average exposure to stress. 4. Works outdoors or on the road frequently and is subject to outdoor elements and environmental conditions. 5. Subject to frequent travel during all seasons. 6. Works in conditions of potential outbursts of disruptive behavior of survivors. 7. Work hours are on-call as needed with consideration given as to availability.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS 1.

Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions. 2. Must be able to stand, walk, drive frequently during the workday, with occasional sitting, twisting, bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting, reaching as necessary in order to carry out essential job duties. 3. Light to heavy work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of 400 pounds, with the assistance of other personnel or equipment. 4. Requires very coordinated dexterity of fingers/hands; arms/legs/torso as necessary to carry out job duties. 5. Must demonstrate emotional stability. 6. Must be able to physically and mentally react quickly in the event of an emotional outcry by others. 7. Must be able to move frequently throughout the worked hours. 8. Must be able to work with bodies which carry or may carry the active hepatitis, mv, or other infectious diseases.

Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with the general public, staff and others. 4. Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to client information and records. 5. Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers, typewriters and other office equipment with accuracy and reasonable speed. 6. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel as needed, and to transport bodies as needed. 7. Must possess ability to overcome and safely control aggressive individuals. 8. Must possess initiative, discretion and be able to make decisions when circumstances warrant. 9. Must possess ability to coordinate a variety of duties and efforts and work well with other departments. 10. Must be able to safely handle bodies which may carry infectious diseases.
