Position Summary:
Positions assigned to this class perform duties associated with the operation of the City's holding facility, the booking and processing of arrested persons, the welfare and security of the persons detained within it, and the transportation of detainees to other facilities.
Essential Functions:
Oversee the daily assessment and operation of the holding facility, equipment inspection, facility inspection, sanitation, fire safety, and detention vehicle inspections. Provide humane treatment and protection to all detainees within the facility. Perform tasks related to the detainees' care, custody and control, including but not limited to legal visits, court attendance and security, meal preparation, escort, transport, control and movement of detainees, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and medical assessment, property inventory, detainee observation and release. Maintain records related to the facility; completion of routine forms and reports; and completion of booking, fingerprinting and custody photographs; and infection control. Provide support for access to programs, buildings and services. Support City policies, goals and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Requirements:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, Be at least 21-years of age at time of appointment, Have one (1) year fulltime paid experience in either a civilian or military capacity as a Detention, Corrections, or Police Officer.
