Full-Time Job Summary:
The Detention Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the detention facility. This role involves supervising inmates, enforcing facility rules, and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures while upholding professionalism and respect for all individuals.Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor inmate behavior and maintain order within the facility
- Conduct regular security checks and inspections of cells and common areas
- Escort inmates to and from court appearances, medical appointments, and other locations
- Perform booking and intake procedures, including searches and documentation
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and security breaches
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and records
- Enforce rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner
- Assist with inmate rehabilitation programs when applicable Minimum Qualifications (REQUIRED):
- Must be able to submit the department's official paper application
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be able to pass a physical examination
- Must pass a drug screening
- Must be at least 18 or 21 years old (per department policy)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in corrections, law enforcement, or security
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Knowledge of detention procedures and criminal justice systems
Working Conditions:
- Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Exposure to potentially dangerous situations
- Physically demanding tasks such as standing for long periods and restraining individuals
