Job Description

The Pike County Sheriff's Office is hiring for the position of Detention Officer. Detention officers supervise inmates within the jail facility during his/her shift and implements measures to maintain high levels of security while ensuring a safe and humane environment for inmates and staff. Completes the receiving, processing, and releasing of inmates. Performs the duties required for the booking of prisoners, such as searching prisoners, securing personal property of arrested person, completing required jail records, taking photographs and fingerprints of arrested person. Performs duties to maintain jail security. Supervise inmate work details while work is completed. Screen visitors to the jail according to policy. Complete required forms and generate reports of incidents as required. Maintain a shift log as to activities within the jail environment. Coordinate medical visits for inmates as required. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must pass a psychological exam and drug screening. Opportunity to attend Mandate School as approved by Command Staff.
