The Phelps County Sheriff's Department Jail Division is expanding operations and hiring additional Correctional Officers for both day and night shift opportunities. This is an opportunity to join a growing public-safety team, receive paid on-the-job training, and build a stable career with room to advance. No correctional experience is required. We are looking for dependable, level-headed people who communicate clearly, remain professional under pressure, accept responsibility, and work well as part of a team. Bring the right attitude and work ethic, and we will provide the training.

COMPENSATION

Starting salary: $38,625 annually Annual uniform allowance: $500 Total annual compensation: $39,125 WHY

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Maintain safety, security, and order within the jail facility Supervise inmate activity, behavior, housing, and movement Conduct security checks, inspections, searches, and inmate counts Enforce facility rules, policies, and lawful instructions consistently Use communication and de-escalation skills to manage conflict Respond to emergencies, medical situations, and security incidents Complete accurate reports and required documentation Work closely with fellow officers, supervisors, medical personnel, and law-enforcement partners

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

At least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license No felony convictions Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays Ability to successfully complete a background investigation, drug screening, and polygraph examination Shift assignments are based on current vacancies, staffing levels, and operational needs. This position is located in Rolla, Missouri, and must be performed in person. This is not a remote position, and relocation assistance is not provided.
