BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Employees will be responsible for planning and performing a wide range of duties including the supervision of assigned shift personnel, ensuring the proper transmission of communication between shifts in addition to communications between officers and supervisors on duty. Successful candidates will review shift assignments, assist in briefing personnel, inspect and review subordinates, and will initiate recommendations and/or make requests for disciplinary actions following the chain of command. Successful candidates must competently work in all areas and units, including booking, and be proficient in reviewing intake and release paperwork, and will be responsible for inspecting officers' appearances and equipment. Employees must be knowledgeable of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines and must be knowledgeable of laws and regulations pertaining to prisoners and their rights. Must have knowledge of the Morpho software. Review and approve timesheet via the Kronos application, Employee will work under minimal supervision and will be subject to call out as needed. Employees may be required to work irregular hours, report for duty 15 minutes before and after shift for briefing purposes, attend job related meetings, and perform all other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED certificate. Detention Officer experience preferred. Must have two years of experience in an adult or juvenile detention center or in a prison. Must have experience and knowledge with current inmate management system. Knowledge of word, excel, and power point preferred. Must successfully pass the 160-hour Detention Officer Certification course and Defensive Tactics course or a similar course within one year of hire. Must successfully pass criminal and employment background investigations. Must have NO felony or domestic violence convictions or misdemeanors convictions involving moral turpitude. Eligibility to work in the U.S. verified thru E-Verify.

All job offers are contingent upon successfully passing a written testing, psychological evaluation, pre-employment physical examination and drug screen. Must have, or ability to obtain, a valid NM driver's license with no DWI convictions or more than two moving violations in the past three years and be insurable by the County Insurance Authority.

MUST PROVIDE A CURRENT DRIVING RECORD.

Correctable to 20/20. Must have good hearing. Must have good reflexes.

Successful passage of polygraph, written testing, interview, psychological evaluation, pre-employment physical and drug screen. Effective oral and written communication skills in English required. Must be knowledgeable of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines. Must be knowledgeable of laws and regulations pertaining to prisoners and their rights. Must possess basic math skills to deal with money and bonding procedures. Must be able to use visual and auditory skills to properly operate control room equipment, must use sound judgment in determining level of incarceration for each inmate and in responding inmates or emergency situations. Must be able to handle stress and respond appropriately in stressful situations. Ability to perform in working conditions with the tools, equipment and materials listed below. This Safety Sensitive position is subject to random drug screen.
