The Detention Sergeant is responsible for supervising all subordinates during their shift, guiding officers in a positive direction, and serving as a role model for the team. This role requires strong leadership skills, attendance at supervisor meetings, providing recommendations for improvement, addressing officers' concerns, offering counseling or reprimands as needed, maintaining reports and daily documentation, and overseeing daily inmate movement and activities.Salary Range MIN:
$21.5673 -MAX:
$32.3505 Additional Information Help for Additional Information. Opens a new window. Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Some higher education preferred.
- At least two (2) years of experience in detention and/or the equivalent in education or training.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Must be able to understand, communicate, read and write in English. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid NM Driver's License.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
- Must be able to pass CPR and First Aid.
- Must be able to handle stress and respond appropriately to stressful situations.
- Must be able to write intelligibly, complete reports, deal with situations requiring tact, understanding and good judgment.
- Remain alert at all times and respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Establish good working relationship with inmates and other staff members.
- Ability to perform all essential duties as listed below.
- Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described below.
- Ability to work with the equipment, tools and materials listed below.
