Details:

Must be able to work hours which do not coincide with Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm workday. Applicants with temporary Jailer License or inactive License will need to have completed all licensing and training requirements for that position or completing reactivation process as per Texas Commission of Law Enforcement.

Position Summary:

Provides corrections services involving the health, safety and security of inmates and the public in a County corrections facility. Monitors prisoners' activities and maintains necessary records.

Minimum Requirements:

Must be a United States citizen at the time of application. Must be 18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Pass a background check An honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed forces {If Applicable}

Certificate, Licenses and Registration:

Applicant must, at the time of appointment to the position, meet the minimum age requirement for Basic Certification as a Jailer from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. Applicant must, within one year of appointment to the position, obtain and thereafter maintain a Basic Certification as a Jailer from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license. Must be able to be insured by the County insurance carrier.

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to write clear and concise reports and to maintain complete records as required. Ability to meet established physical standards. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and officials, inmates and the public. Employee may be assigned to other duties in addition to those listed and duties may change according to changing needs of the department. The following would disqualify and individual for a jailer position: Failure to meet the minimum requirements for the position applied. Have been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class 8 misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years. Have been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years from the date of the court order. Have been or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years from the date of the court order. Currently under indictment for any criminal offense. Have been convicted, received deferred judgment, placed on court ordered probation or community supervision for any felony offense. Have been convicted of any/or received a deferred judgement for any Family Violence offense. Is prohibited by state of federal law from operating a motor vehicle. Is prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition. Have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions including, specifically: bad conduct, dishonorable or any other characterization of service indicating bad character.
