Job Duties:

In this job, you will supervise staff on shift, make schedules, train employees, and keep inmates safe and orderly. You will check your areas regularly to make sure security, and safety rules are being followed.

You will oversee contraband searches, supervise inmates in housing and work areas, and conduct pat and strip searches. You will handle counts, meals, movement, and other daily routines.

You will watch inmate behavior, restrain inmates when needed, and manage inmate transfers and transportation.

You will supervise inmate workers in technical, industrial, agricultural, food service, and maintenance areas, both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in tough weather or non-climate controlled spaces.

You will respond to emergencies, give first aid, help with evacuations, and use force when required to maintain safety.

You will review inmate records, enforce disciplinary rules, complete reports and documentation, and coordinate with staff and outside agencies as needed. You'd be a GOOD fit if:

You have a high school diploma or GED and three years of full-time correctional or law enforcement experience, with supervisory experience preferred. College credits can count toward some nonsupervisory experience.

This job works well for someone who understands correctional operations, follows rules closely, and communicates clearly. You should be reliable, organized, and comfortable planning work and keeping accurate records.

Strong awareness is important being able to notice shifts in inmate or staff behavior. You will also need to stay calm during emergencies or conflict, be fair when enforcing rules, work well with different departments, and solve problems as they come up.
