Job Description

The Administrative Hearings Division (AHD) of the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC or Commission) is primarily responsible for compiling accurate and complete records of proceedings before the Commission. The incumbent serves as an LPSC Court Reporter and adheres to professional standards of court reporting by utilizing electronic recording equipment to produce verbatim transcripts of all public hearings and meetings presided over by the five elected LPSC Commissioners, all adjudicatory hearings and oral arguments presided over by the Administrative Law Judges, and technical conferences conducted by the Commission's Office of General Counsel. A strong command of punctuation is very useful in this position.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here .

Job Duties:

The position is public-facing during hearings and meetings and you must be able to present a professional image and work professionally. Day to day you will use the weekly schedule to guide you on what meetings or hearings you are assigned to cover. You will test recording equipment before each hearing/meeting, set up for the hearing/meeting, cover the hearing/meeting, and the transcribe the hearing/meeting using For The Record for audio playback and a foot pedal. During the hearing/meeting you will receive exhibits filed into the record, often confidential, so you must be able to maintain confidentiality of information. You will also assist team members in reviewing/proofreading their transcripts for thoroughness and appropriate punctuation. Will have occasional travel out of town to cover an out-of-town public meeting. Serve as backup to supervisor as needed.
