A Court Reporter or Stenographer uses verbatim transcription methods and equipment to capture, store, retrieve, and transcribe pretrial and trial proceedings or other information. Includes steno captioners who operate computerized stenographic captioning equipment to provide captions of live or prerecorded broadcasts for hearing-impaired viewers.
This is clerical work of moderate difficulty and variety. Employees perform their tasks with moderate supervision; are responsible for a number of clerical functions which are interrelated; interpret to a limited extent certain policy, and procedures; exercise initiative and judgment in determining appropriate actions, and are responsible for finality of decisions in given situations. Employees work under close supervision while learning the more difficult phases of work, but thereafter detailed instructions are given only on changes in procedures and on usually difficult matters. This position requires extensive use of a computer case management system. This position requires public contact to either gather or distribute information.
Duties :
Performs a variety of clerical duties such as posting, filing, calculating, checking, and comparing information from customers. Processes multiple forms of payments, documents all matter in the software system, provides accurate change and documents as necessary. Uses computer software to access and input information of a routine nature; speed, style, and other typing skills are required. Participates in the maintenance and processing of client records, court dockets, court notices, extract of minutes, resetting court dates, processing filings, preparing judgments, processing services or other records as necessary. Assists in processing mail, answering multiple phone lines, and working directly with customers in court and at the counter. Operates postage machine, copier, credit card machines, and other office machines. May serve as backup to other staff as needed and in other offices as needed. Responsible for all aspects of the court session such as preparing notices, setting court dates, corresponding with attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants, engaging with the landlords and land managers and attending court dates. Performs related work as required. Qualifications Proven clerical or administrative experience in an office setting, demonstrating strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent phone etiquette skills with the ability to manage multi-line phone systems confidently. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all records. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse clients and team members. Strong typing speed, proofreading skills, and data entry accuracy are required for efficient workflow. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage time efficiently. Graduation from high school and experience in general clerical work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
