They create verbatim records that are used in legal documentation, proceedings, and for future reference. Duties Attend and transcribe verbatim testimony, speeches, and proceedings during court trials, hearings, and depositions. Record spoken words using specialized equipment( e.g. stenotype machine, audio recording software) to ensure a complete and accurate record. Edit and proofread transcripts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, ensuring high quality, error- free records. Provide copies of transcripts to attorneys , judges, or other authorized individuals. Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding all case materials and proceedings. Prepare and certify transcripts for use in legal cases, ensuring compliance with relevant court procedures. Respond to inquiries and request for transcripts from legal teams, courts, or other relevant parties. Collaborate with judges, attorney, and other court personnel to ensure smooth proceedings. Ensure proper management and storage of transcripts and recordings. Assist other Judges when needed. Support other office personnel with their task, including answering phone calls and otherwise serving the public. Experience Prior experience in court reporting or transcription in legal settings preferred.
