Job Description

As a member of the advocacy team, transport clients as needed, provide advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking, ensure an atmosphere of empathy and healing, complete follow-up; assist clients toward meeting their goals/objectives. Other advocacy functions as needed. All advocacy/support related functions are to be completed with an understanding and utilization of trauma-informed care.
Job Description :
1. Oversee the program according to procedures. 2. Collect court dockets through the Chancery Court Clerk's and General Sessions Clerk's offices 3. Attend court where any case involving domestic and/or sexual violence, stalking or human trafficking is on the docket 4. Collect reports from local law enforcement. 5. Notify victims of their court date and contact victims as safety permits. 6. Arrange meetings with victims to explain the court procedures and allow the victim to become more comfortable/more familiar in otherwise intimidating surroundings 7. Assist victims in obtaining Orders of Protection and filing warrants 8. Serve as a liaison between victims and the District Attorney, providing information about each case. 9. Offer step-by-step assistance to victims throughout their court proceedings 10. Provide crisis intervention via the hotline and one-on-one non-therapeutic counseling. 11. Available to respond to medical facilities, law enforcement and social service agencies when an initial report of domestic and/or sexual assault ,stalking or human trafficking has been made to provide crisis intervention, safety planning and begin the advocacy and support process. 12. Determine needs of clients and shelter admission, if appropriate. 13. Ensure all clients receive clothing and hygienic items when necessary. 14. Conduct assessment of clients and complete all paperwork necessary 15. Refer or take clients to needed community resources. 16. Provide education about domestic and/or sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking as appropriate both one-on-one and in a group setting. 17. Develop a safety plan. 18. Maintain a safe and open environment for clients to discuss their concerns and needs. 19. Provide education to the community about domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking as requested. 20. Maintain up-to-date, accurate and understandable records, including monthly reports. 21. Continue follow-up contacts as long as victims requests it/finds helpful. 22. Attend scheduled team and training sessions as well as staff meetings. 23. Be available to be on-call for one week at a time. (Typically no more than one time per month.) 24. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 25. Demonstrate supportive, positive, trauma-informed care approach toward clients 26. Skilled in addressing the special needs of victims, while displaying a compassionate and professional approach. 27. Ability to effectively network with other agencies and the community, by accessing services available to the client population. 28. Always communicates clearly, using words and styles of presentation which are appropriate for the situation. 29. Strong organizational and time management skills; able to meet deadlines. 30. Volunteers to help other team members who have larger or more pressing work to complete. 31. Communicates in a positive manner with all team members. 32. Conduct self in a professional manner. 33. Available to work flexible days and hours. 34. Comply with established standards of care for clients. 35. Adhere to staff code of conduct, including confidentiality agreements and other requirements.
