Job Description:
Summary of Functions:
Provides shorthand reporting for court litigation. Creates verbatim records of oral court proceedings. Reports depositions, grand jury proceedings, and hearings. Uses written shorthand, machine shorthand, or steno mask.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attends all required court sessions. Records testimony, objections, rulings, and proceedings. Records jury instructions, arguments, and judicial opinions. Reads transcript portions during trial when directed. Requests clarification of inaudible statements. Preserves notes and maintains appropriate files. Prepares transcripts of proceedings as requested. May conduct depositions and execute related commissions. Reports contested probate matters as directed. Records other hearings and formal or informal meetings. Operates stenotype and computer-aided transcription equipment. Provides light typing and clerical support as needed.
Education, Experience & Training:
High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited court reporting school required. Texas court reporting certification required.
Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of applicable Texas Codes. Knowledge of Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure. Knowledge of court reporting procedures and practices.
Skills & Abilities:
Skilled in standard software applications. Skilled in stenographic and transcription equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
